காமம் எனவொன்றோ கண்ணின்றென் நெஞ்சத்தை
யாமத்தும் ஆளும் தொழில்.

காதல் வேட்கை எனப்படும் ஒன்று இரக்கமே இல்லாதது; ஏனெனில் அது என் நெஞ்சில் நள்ளிரவிலும் ஆதிக்கம் செலுத்தி அலைக்கழிக்கிறது
மு. வரதராசன் உரை
காமம் என்று சொல்லப்படுகின்ற ஒன்று கண்ணோட்டம் இல்லாதது. அது என் நெஞ்சத்தை நள்ளிரவில் ஏவல் கொண்டு ஆள்கிறது.
சாலமன் பாப்பையா உரை
எல்லாரும் வேலையின்றி உறங்கும் நடுச்சாமத்திலும் என் நெஞ்சத்தைத் தண்டித்து வேலை வாங்குவதால் காதல் என்று சொல்லப்படும் ஒன்று இரக்கமற்றதாக இருக்கிறது.
பாரி மேலகர் உரை
பரிமேலழகர் உரை: (நெஞ்சின்கண் தோன்றிய காமம் நெஞ்சால் அடக்கப்படும் என்றாட்குச் சொல்லியது.) யாமத்தும் என் நெஞ்சத்தைத் தொழில் ஆளும் - எல்லாரும் தொழிலொழியும் இடை யாமத்தும் என் நெஞ்சத்தை ஒறுத்துத் தொழில் கொள்ளா நின்றது; காமம் என ஒன்று கண் இன்று - ஆகலாற் காமம் என்று சொல்லப்பட்ட ஒன்று கண்ணோட்டம் இன்றாயிருந்தது. ('ஓ' என்பது இரக்கக் குறிப்பு. தொழிலின்கண்ணேயாடல் - தலைமகன்பாற் செலவிடுத்தல். தாயைப் பணி கோடல் உலகியலன்மையின் 'காமம் என ஒன்று' என்றும் அது தன்னைக் கொள்கின்றது அளவறியாது கோடலின் 'கண்ணின்று' என்றும் கூறினாள். அடக்கப்படாமை கூறியவாறு.).

மணக்குடவர் உரை: காமமென்றொன்று கண்ணோட்டமுடைத்தன்று: என்னெஞ்சத்தை நடுநாள் யாமத்தினும் தொழில்கொள்ளா நின்றது. தொழில் கொள்ளுதலாவது அப்பொழுது அவர்மாட்டுப் போக விடுத்தல். இது நெஞ்சின் மிக்கது வாய்சோர்ந்து ஆற்றாமையால் தலைமகள் தோழிக்குக் கூறியது.
வி முனுசாமி உரை
திருக்குறளார் வீ. முனிசாமி உரை: எல்லோரும் தூங்குகின்ற பாதி இரவிலும் எனது நெஞ்சத்தினைத் தொழிற்படுத்தி ஆட்சி செய்கின்றது; ஆதலால் காமம் என்று சொல்லப்படுகின்ற ஒன்று இரக்கமில்லாததாக இருக்கின்றது.
